Comedy movies in the recent times have done well in Tamil films. Especially, the movies made by young team without big star casts have been kindly welcomed by Kollywood audience. Now, yet another film is before cine-goers in the form of Neram .
Neram is a bilingual movie, simultaneously made in Malayalamand Tamil. The film stars young Malayalam actors Nivin Pauly and Nazriya Nazim in the leads. The Malayalam version was released last week and the Kollywood version is hitting screens today (May 17).
The movie is a romantic-comedy thriller set in Chennai . Vetri (NivinPauly) is a software engineer based in Chennai. Unfortunately, the highly-qualified man loses his job after his US based company lands in a financial crisis. He has also taken loan from a notorious moneylender (Simhaa) and has notpaid interests for the last couple ofmonths.
Now, the moneylender sets him a deadline to clear his money and onthe other end, his fiancee, Jeena (Nazriya Nazim) leaves her father's (Thambi Ramaiah) house. It is because he does not want his daughter to marry an unemployed.More importantly, he forces her totie the knot with a boy chosen by him.
To add salt into Vetri's misery, herfather files a complaint against Vetri, who is in need of Money to conduct his sister's marriage. Well,we have seen heroes struggling very hard to come out of crisis all these years in our films. But Vetri,a modern-day youth, finds innovative ideas to solve his problems and he even puts his friend in trouble to escape from his own problems. How the bad time changes into good time in their lives form the rest of the story.
Director Alphonse Putharen has created a working plot for Neram . Adding romantic charm, he has come up with an enjoyable trait, which is infused with a good measure of likability. He narrates asimple story of a crisis-ridden character, which should accomplishmany tasks in very little time.
Neram movie review
Neram is a dark comedy that has all the quintessential elements including joy, sorrow, mirth and anger. Nivin and Nazriya's performances are the main attraction in the film. Alphonse's script and narration, Rajesh Murugesan's music, Anand C Chandran's cinematography are other highlights of the film. The slow-paced narration is one big drawback of the movie.
The movie revolves around the life of an unemployed IT engineer, who runs up debts to marry off hissister. Nivin and Nazriya's chemistry is palpable. Alphonse, who studied films at SAE College in Chennai, has claimed that Neram is a recollection of his own experiences and those of some others he know. His struggles in the cine world have inspired him to do this film. The film does not have any novelty, but its engaging catchline draws your attention.
After completing his engineering degree in computer, Mathew is staying with his friend in Chennai and seeking for a job, but he doesn't get any job. He is in love with a girl named Jeena, who is self-employed in a travel agency. After knowing their love affair, her father Johny Kutty agrees for their marriage. Mathew takes loan from a Money lender and as time passes, he fails to repay the amount. At this juncture, the money lender kidnaps his lover, misunderstanding her to be the girlfriend of another guy, who has borrowed money from him. What happens next will from the climax of the movie.
